Freemasonry

The Craft as an esoteric transmission of the ancient mysteries, and the most direct Masonic channel into Mormon ritual. Adams gives it no entry.

Adams has no article on Freemasonry; a Boston compiler in 1817 simply passed it by, which is why this profile carries no Adams seed. The archive keeps it anyway, because the Craft is where the ancient-mysteries story turns practical on the American frontier.

Anderson’s Constitutions give the Craft a patriarchal genealogy running back through Noah to the antediluvian world, the degrees narrate a lost word and its recovery, and the temple form and vocabulary pass directly into the endowment Joseph Smith introduced at Nauvoo. It is the clearest ritual channel from the reservoir into Mormonism.
